Being born in Seattle, Washington in 1949 to a career Air Force officer and his wife, Rick led a nomadic military dependent’s life before finally settling in Southern California upon his father’s retirement from the service.
Shortly after graduating from Redlands High School, Rick enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving as a combat “grunt” during the Vietnam War. Upon completion of his enlistment, Rick returned to college, completing both an Associate’s degree in Business Administration at Orange Coast College, then a Bachelor of Science degree in Entomology at the University of California at Davis. Graduation brought a career in the food industry first at Del Monte Corporation and then at Miller Brewing Company in Fort Worth, from which he retired after almost 30 years of service.
A relative newcomer to writing, he began his writer’s journey as a path to share his service experience in the Marine Corps with his current wife, Donna and sons, Eric and Ryan. One story led to another, then another, and a newfound passion was born.
Rick’s other interests include fishing, metal detecting, water color painting, and photography. A resident of Granbury for over 25 years, Rick now splits his time between Florida in the winter and New York during the summer.
